The terrible cost of life and culture brought by the colonization of the Indian population remains one of the most tragic realities in the United States of America. Throughout its history, the United States has been a nation of immigrants. The population is diverse, people from all over the world are looking for refuge and a better way of life. The country is divided into six regions – New England, Mid-Atlantic, South, Midwest, Southwest and West. In the early 17th century, settlers from Europe settled in the ‘New World’, founded colonies and expelled indigenous peoples.
In America, various species of animals live, such as black bears, gray wolves, bald eagles, cougars and beavers. While animals such as bison once existed throughout the country, today they lead a protected life in order to be preserved. In accordance with the above fact, the geography and landscape of America is not only of one kind. This means that in America there are dry and arid deserts and tropical beaches!
The same three countries top the list of the United States’ top import partners, with more than 18 percent of U.S. imports coming from China alone. Did you know that Greenland is the largest island in the world? Although it is an autonomous region, it technically belongs to North America. With a total area of 836,300 square miles, Greenland is larger than Alaska, the largest state in the United States and another fun fact, despite its name, Greenland is covered with ice. Mammals such as the American buffalo used to roam freely through the plains, but today they can only be found in protected areas. The largest carnivores are black bears, grizzlies and evenpolar bears that live in the far north of Alaska.
Foods native to the continent, and therefore the traditional American diet, can be healthy – including whole grains, pumpkin, legumes, vegetables, fruits, poultry and red meat. However, since the middle of the 20th century in the United States, the eating habits of ordinary people have changed significantly. After the anglish First World War fastfoodbecame very popular in the USA, because the increased use of vehicles made the restaurant very convenient. Currently, McDonald’s is the largest fast food chain in the world. Before European colonization, the continent had already been inhabited by indigenous people for more than 15,000 years.
While Phoenix is home to the largest urban park in the country (16,283 hectares of South Mountain Park), the title of the smallest urban park belongs to Mile Ends Park in Portland, Oregon. Only watchful eyes will notice the tiny, two-foot-wide patch of green on Naito Parkway in downtown Portland, planted in 1940 by Oregon Magazine columnist Dick Fagan. After the financial crisis of 2008 and now due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, recession and economic recovery have been a major challenge for US policy over the past 15 years. While GDP fell by 3.5 percent in 2020, it is expected to grow by 6.4 percent in 2021.
This was partly due to the number of immigrants who came to the country in search of opportunities. Between 1900 and 1915, 15 million immigrants from countries such as Italy, Russia and Poland came to the United States. The new citizens worked in places such as gold mines and clothing factories, helped in the construction of railways and canals. These immigrants brought new ideas and culture to the young country. In the same year, the adoption of the 13th Amendment to the Constitution officially abolished slavery and ended almost 250 years of slavery in the country. Former enslaved people – as well as their descendants – have been discriminated against, and African-American heroes are still fighting for equality today.
Most people assume that English is the official language of the United States, but the truth is, although this may be the case in many states, the federal government has never declared it an official language. This is one of the 16 date questions that everyone always gets wrong. As the capital of the United States, not enough people came forward to do so. Thus, officials turned to enslaved and free African Americans to get their work done. These men built the White House and many early American government buildings. Lake Superior is the largest freshwater lake in the world by area, with an area of 31,700 square miles, or 82,100 square kilometers – about the size of Maine. It also contains 10 percent of the world’s surface fresh water. It’s 3 quadrillion gallons enough to cover North and South America under a foot of water.
When Abraham Lincoln became president in 1861, the nation had been arguing for more than a hundred years about the enslavement of people and the right of every nation to allow it. Many people in the northern states agreed with him; however, some people in the southern states relied on enslaved people to grow their crops and did not want slavery to end. Eventually, 11 southern states formed the Confederate States of America to oppose the 23 northern states that remained in the Union. During this period, battles between settlers and Native Americans often broke out, especially since more and more people claimed the land where the Native Americans lived. The U.S. government signed nearly 400 peace treaties between the mid-18th and mid-19th centuries to show that they wanted peace with the native tribes. But the government did not comply with most of these treaties and even sent military units to forcibly remove the Native Americans from their lands.
Mammals such as bison once roamed freely through the plains, but today they live only in reserves. Black bears, dolphins and polar bears are the largest carnivores. There are more than 20,000 species of flowers, most of which come from Europe. There are more than 400 areas protected and maintained by the National Park Service, and many other parks in each state.
