Oktoberfest Beginner’s Guide: Everything You Need To Know

But we’re not talking about poker or blackjack here. Organized by the Schafkopfschule München, anyone (including you!) as an individual or group can make a beer shop reservation in the Schafkopf room. You can be a professional or casual card player, but I’m pretty sure you should already know how to play. These meals usually come with side dishes and cost less than any of the larger meals you’ll find on the rest of the menu.

If you’re ready to plan your trip to Oktoberfest, check out our planning guide. In addition, we try to answer them all on our other pages or in the FAQs. Also, don’t forget to bring coins, which are especially great for stress-free tips. A liter of beer costs 12 or 13 euros, depending on how generously you want to tip, so make sure you have enough ten euro notes and coins of 1 and 2 euros. That said, you might be feeling grumpy and want to spend on a hotel. Honestly, there are many benefits to staying in a hotel (ease of check-in, support from the staff, etc. are key).

(I didn’t know such an alliance existed, but of course I can see it.) This work will allow you to visit your beloved homeland. I know, this list is getting more amazing by the minute, but it’s true. In the Armbrustschützenzelt (also called the crossbowman’s shop) there is an honest crossbow shooting range. However, there are a few places at Oktoberfest where you can drink from real jugs, but 99% of the time you drink from a maßkrug. At Oktoberfest you drink beer and drink beer per liter. These giant glass jugs of beer of one liter are called maß or dough.

Germany is generally a safe country and violent crime is rare. However, theft is common in large festival environments, so leave your valuables behind and try to avoid drinking so much that you let your guard down. The Hacker Festzelt is another big tent that attracts a mix of locals and foreigners viaggi oktoberfest with its ethereal Himmel der Bayern décor. And it should be used when drinking with friends and strangers. Oktoberfest beer must have about 6% alcohol by volume, and beer must be brewed in Munich to be served at Oktoberfest. There are many excellent options in Munich for every budget.

Oktoberfest is a celebration of great local beers, great people, and it’s all anchored in classic Bavarian culture — learn about the annual beer festival, Oktoberfest. Your best chance to take a seat at a table in one of the beer tents is around the morning/early afternoon for the middle of the first week. While most Oktoberfest beer tents have the same standard “beer garden” tables, there is one that is superior.

Perhaps the most popular walk among the locals is the Teufelsrad. Since 1908, visitors have been competing with each other to stay on a rotating disc for as long as possible. If you pay, you can stay there as long as you want. Don’t be surprised if you look at the next table and see a toddler drinking what looks like a beer (I promise it’s probably just a carbonated apple drink). There are plenty of great things to do at Oktoberfest besides drinking beer. Personally, even on a budget, I spent about 50 euros a day (not cheap, I know!) for food, drinks and a few walks.

Did you want to attend Oktoberfest in Munich, but you’re not sure where to start or if you can go in? We felt the same way for years, so we couldn’t even try. But once we went to Oktoberfest, we realized that attending the event is easier than you think. Oktoberfest is just around the corner as the first day began on September 16.
